More than 50% of girls fail to enroll in school; those that do are likely to drop out by the age of 12 and 53% of girls in the age group of 5-9 yrs are illiterate.

The following below are a few wonderful, life-changing and inspirational stories. The Shakti education program is filled with many such stories that inculcate the power of love, dedication and positive actions within the people who zealously work for this program, encouraging them to spread the message as well.

These stories also set a fine example to many others who truly want to make a difference in this world.

This story is about two siblings, Sheetal and Priyanka, from Panipat, Haryana. Having braved the loss of both of their parents, they are currently under the guardianship of their grandparents. Shakti whole-heartedly took these children under its wing and currently supports their education. In due course of time, with full support from the Shakti education program, these children will grow into responsible individuals who will not only be able to support themselves financially, but they will also be able to look after their grandparents.

This story is about a girl from Gannaur, District Sonepat, Haryana who nurtured a dream to pursue a career in medicine. When she approached the Shakti team with these aspirations in her heart, Shakti unwaveringly provided her with a sponsorship to further her education until the completion of her Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery. Upon receiving a heart-warming response from the Shakti team, this girl has pledged to serve the cause of Shakti for a period of five years, after completing her education. She wants to reciprocate the feeling of love and support she received from Shakti by supporting more and more girls herself. Shakti is simply not a foundation for education, the program also serves as a platform to motivate girls to bring about a difference in the lives of other girls.

This story is about a mother and two daughters (Kritika and Sania Verma) from Kapurthala, Punjab. Kritika and Sania’s father has been missing for the past two years due to unknown circumstances. Because their father’s whereabouts could not be traced, the girls’ mother asked for help from her own father in order to support the family and the girls’ education. After learning about the Shakti Education program, she applied for a scholarship for Kritika and Sania. The Shakti Education program granted both scholarships, and the elder daughter has promised to become an investigative officer at the Criminal Investigation Department of India. We are hopeful that by Shakti education program, her aspirations will come to fruition and she will set an example for other girls, enrolled in Shakti program.
